Teenage (girl) World Cup Finalists
A 2-1 win over the young ladies of North Korea yesterday in the football mecca that is the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago has put Japan in to the World Cup Final (of the women’s under 17 World Cup).
Having just viewed the brief highlights on the FIFA website I can give the following expert analysis…
Not wanting to be too cruel, but Japan’s teenage girls went behind thanks to an almost non-existent wall followed by some almost Robert Green style goalkeeping. The equaliser came from a nice back post header from Hikari Takagi.
And the winner came from the same girl who scored the quarter final screamer, Kumi Yokohama, who seems to be something of a super sub.
Like her previous goal against Ireland, this one put an end to an giggles from watching comedy defending and goalkeeping errors and is a rather impressive waltz through the Korean defence and a nice shot. Worth a view for that goal if nothing else.
So having despatched North Korea’s teenage girls, Japan will now face their southern counterparts in the World Cup Final on Sunday, after South Korea beat Spain in the other semi-final.
A good achievement I’m sure you’ll agree – and to think some Japanese teenagers are more content to dress up as cos-play weirdos, or collecting dangly mobile phone accessories instead of playing the beautiful game
